Janet K. Dyer, Artist

Mountains and Fields, Pennsylvania...

An avid traveler, Janet K. Dyer tends to focus on landscapes and animals wherever she goes: whether in the mid-west, either coast, or even as far afield as Europe.

Ms. Dyer's pieces reflect her unique perspective "at different speeds, in all seasons, at all times of day and night." She works mainly in acrylic on canvas and board, but also enjoys working in other media, such as printmaking and photography.

Visit our gallery to experience the movement and sweeping lines of some of her original paintings.

"In all things of nature...

...there is something of the marvelous." ~Aristotle

My father-in-law finished hanging our sign today...

For those of you who have never been by my barn before, the side with the sign on it used to be covered in Virginia Creeper -- thick, lush, and dark in the summer, a vibrant red in the autumn, cradled birds' nests in the spring -- I absolutely loved it.

But because of our opening the shoppe and gallery, we started debating whether or not we should remove it, mostly for the integrity of the structure since several tendrils had made their way into a window and the upper loft over the years. I was so heartsick about the idea that I suggested we at least leave it up until it slept in the winter...I wanted to put off making the decision.

Strange thing though, during the night of the Summer Solstice, the whole vine fell away, making the decision for me.

So now our sign stands out boldly on its own on the side of the barn...in the next few weeks though I think I'll plant a flower bed at its base.

Jonathan Levy, Artist

Walking Under the Shadow of the Tree...
Walking Under the Shadow of the Tree 7
Observation of nature formed both Levy's outlook on life and style of painting. He focuses his attention on the patterns and movements found in the natural world, from the repetitive formula of a flower, to the chaotic rhythm of the ocean. As a child, he was deeply intrigued by the marbling patterns found within stone.

Through his work, Levy attempts to reignite an appreciation for that which forms through a natural process. He feels that, in today's fast-moving, high-tech world, the splendor of nature, ofterntimes, is overshadowed and taken for granted.

You can enjoy more of Levy's original work on display at Port Penn Peddler.
